The beginning of June is here, and in the happy nostalgia side of things it is the last day of the A-kon anime convention I used to go to every year in Texas.
It also reminds me of a time when I came to a realization of how murder affects lives. It was the beginning of June when I heard news of a friend's fiancee being murdered by a sick serial killer. The Railway killer took over 15 (possibly over 20) lives as far as we know, and surely affected countless more with senseless and brutal murders. I'm not a religious person, but times like this I pray to whatever is out there. for a more just and meaningful world.
He was executed two years ago, but I didn't feel any sense of justice. He was a sick disgusting man, but I still don't enjoy the death penalty. I just want to stop and capture any other like-minded individuals before they can destroy more lives. An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind, but aren't we blind ourselves in becoming jaded for letting other violent murder cases go unsolved? I cannot stay depressed about this because if the statistics put out by the justice departments are correct, then the violent crime rates have steadily gone down. The world is savage, but only so because there are so many people to love, and that which we love is what hurts most to lose.
